The first script should be executed prior to the new day starting. The script creates the next day s new folder (and subfolders) under Today. This means that for some period of time, the Today folder will contain two dated folders. At some point after midnight of the new day, execute the second script. The second script does the bulk of the work. First, it checks to see whether the dated folder from yesterday (which has not been moved yet from the Today folder) has a full backup. If it does, it moves that backup to Old Full and, if necessary, deletes one of the older full backups. After that, the oldest directory that is one day beyond the retention policy is deleted. Yesterday s directory is moved from Today to Yesterday, and the folder in Yesterday is moved to Archive.
